Today is the draw for the lottery for the NYC half marathon in March. If you need me, I’ll be sitting on the couch staring at my inbox waiting for an email!
Seriously though, starting from almost scratch with your running is tough! Last week I ran a couple of short runs, but nothing too interesting.
This week I looked at the runs that Michelle assigned me and almost laughed. I sent my friend, Maria, a text last night saying that I was going to tell Michelle to scale it back. Then I sent another text saying that I was going to try it and see if I could do it first! Time to believe in myself a little, right?!
Yesterday, Anson asked me when I was running and I nearly fell off the couch (I probably spend too much time on my couch!). Running isn’t his favourite so I was pretty excited that he wanted to go with me. Last night we went out for a 20-minute run and then tossed our same clothes near the door with plans to head out for my interval run early this morning. (May as well save the laundry when running twice in less than 12 hours!)
If you know me even a tiny bit, you know that I am NOT a morning person at all! I can stay up until 3 AM no problem, but mornings are not my jam. I also know that if I want to guarantee I get my workout in that I need to do it in the morning. This morning my alarm went off at 6 and after multiple snooze button pushes, we finally headed down the road. The moon was out and the sun was just starting to come up reminding me that if I can just get myself out the door, I actually like this time of day. The quietness and stillness is something you don’t get if you run in the afternoon all the time!
Then the surprise of all surprises came, I actually completed the workout: 3km warmup, 27 minutes of speed work and then 3km cooldown for a total of 9.33km. I’m still a little shocked I did it, but I am so glad that I decided to give it a try.
This morning’s run gave me a little glimmer of hope that I can get back to where I was in regards to my running and continue to get better. Sometimes we just need a little belief in ourselves!
Hope your week has been awesome…. and may all my friends get into the NYC half!
