This weekend feels like a total whirlwind. It’s actually not even the weekend anymore, but I’m still not completely sure what day it is!
I have some students taking theory exams this week with the Royal Conservatory and I have been doing extra lessons with them. I am pretty sure I’ve been dreaming chords and cadences and modulations. Yesterday was our last theory lesson for awhile and I have to say, I’m ready for a break!! (In case you don’t know–I teach piano & theory lessons four nights a week!)
Saturday, my kid’s swimming lessons were interrupted by an accident in the pool (wasn’t my kids, don’t worry! They’re way too old for that!). We spent extra time getting them ready for their dance recital and then watched them perform. Let’s be real here–dancing is not really a family talent, so I was extra proud of them for sticking with the class at the Y and working hard at it! They gave it their all and did amazing!
On Sunday I got up and headed downtown to watch Cathy run her half marathon. Cathy almost gave up on this distance last year but decided to give it another shot. I knew from the minute she signed up that I wanted to be there to cheer her on. I sat in my car once with tears going down my face thinking of how hard she worked and how she was going to crush it. (Is that weird?! Ok–that’s probably a little weird!) If you know Cathy at all, my feelings would make sense. She deserved to have a good race and I really wanted that for her. I am so happy that she was able to get herself that PB that she’s been wanting and that I got to be there to see it happen. You can read Cathy’s beautiful post about her race here.
After Cathy’s race, I took the train home and just kept thinking how the week before I had spoken about Reebok’s phrase “Better Together.” Reading Cathy’s race post and thinking of everyone who was rooting for her during her race reminded me again how having a community around you really does push us to be better. It’s one of those phrases that pops into my head all the time now as I see it lived out in real life in front of me!
Not only did Cathy crush her half marathon on Sunday, but she also planned a fun Float Run last night downtown Toronto with Reebok. We met at 8PM at the Toronto sign for a 5k “glow run.” Monday night after two major marathons was probably not the ideal time for a run, but we were really excited to meet some new people and see some familiar faces as well!
We did a 5k loop and remarked how bright the Floatride shoes from Reebok are! You can literally see them from so far away–it’s pretty awesome! (These shoes are selling like crazy, so check them out online at Reebok.ca or at select Running Rooms. Snatch them up for $180 before they’re gone!) It was my first time running in their full-length tights as well and I found them really comfortable. They didn’t slide off while I ran like so many other leggings do and the reflective delta on the side is so unique!
After we finished our run we chatted for awhile, took a few pictures and then headed home.
We have one more Float Run left on Saturday morning in Ajax. This one is special because we are collecting donations for a women’s shelter in Oshawa. Even if you don’t run, you can walk with us! We would love to see a big crowd out in support of this special event!
