The next few weeks are jammed packed with so many exciting things that I can hardly stand it!
Tomorrow one of my best friends, Trudy and her parents, land in Toronto. I met Trudy the very first week we moved to Malta and the rest is history.
On Sunday, one of my other best friends, Dani & her fiance, Nick, drive in from their epic road trip. They flew to New Orleans from the UK over a month ago and have been traveling all over! They got engaged on their trip & are getting married just outside Nashville in exactly two weeks.
I met Dani in Malta through Trudy and it was there that all three of us started running. We used to run together through Malta and in April 2013, we ran the Gozo Half Marathon. The night after the race we all entered the lottery for the London Marathon the next year and discussed how we were going to run a full marathon together.
By June life had changed drastically. Dani returned to the UK, we found ourselves back in Canada and Trudy was still in Malta.
Earlier this year I randomly suggested to Trudy that she come run the Toronto Marathon in October and from there it snowballed. So, on October 16, in spite of less than stellar marathon training, Trudy, Dani & I will line up and run the streets of Toronto together.
We haven’t seen each other in over three years and I honestly can’t believe that this Thanksgiving will be spent with my beautiful friends. We spent a lot of time sitting around our table in Malta playing games, eating endless food and laughing hysterically over probably non funny things! I can’t wait to do the same things next week!
We began our running journeys together and even though this marathon is going to hurt, I am so glad I get to do it with these girls. Even more than the race, I am so excited that I get to go to Dani’s wedding. I haven’t even met Nick yet, but I can tell he is perfect for her. To be able to share in their special day is something I never thought would happen. Eek!
The next few weeks are going to be filled with running, wedding dress shopping, eating, exploring and laughing. Malta will always hold a giant piece of my heart and the friends I made there are the reason why!
