In case the title didn’t give it away–we are moving. Again. We got married in 2002 and if I count this move, we have moved TWELVE TIMES. We have moved to two different countries, bought and sold a house and rented various other places. We booked tickets from Malta to Canada on a Wednesday and flew out on Friday. In those 48 hours, we packed up all of our stuff, put it in storage and managed to throw a going away party for ourselves. Moving has become a way of life almost, but it still doesn’t mean it’s the most fun thing to do!
We didn’t really plan this move until we started talking last week about what would be best for our family. We looked at one house, put in an application and heard Wednesday night that we would be moving October 1. I spent yesterday starting to pack and just wanted to share my favourite things about moving with you!
Throwing stuff out
I actually love throwing stuff out. I’m probably considered weird, but I love getting a forced opportunity to sort through some stuff and pitch what we don’t use or need. I was getting rid of a sweater yesterday and Aimee was horrified. I told her that I haven’t worn it in over three years, so the odds I was gonna start now were pretty slim!
Feeling like you’re getting a fresh start
Usually, life doesn’t change too drastically when you move unless you go really far; but, there is still that feeling of starting over again. It is nice to have the chance to re-evaluate things that you’re doing and make changes–especially with kids! New house = new rules!
Exploring new surroundings
Even though we are moving to an area we are already familiar with, it is still somewhere we haven’t lived. I like getting to know different areas: where to shop, where to eat, best places to walk with the kids or go for a run. Every new place we have lived has surprised me with places that I end up loving! I’ll definitely miss this spot by the lake where I always take pictures, but I bet there’s another place I’ll end up loving by the new house.
How many times have you moved?
Do you hate it? Love it? Why?
