Is the weekend over already? I feel like I could sleep for three days straight but that will need to wait until Labour Day! I have something scheduled for every single day until then, but I’m excited! Who needs sleep anyhow? (I joke–I love sleeping. Naps are my favourite hobby…and eating. I love eating, too.)
On Friday we went to Wonderland as a family. Last year we got passes (it’s cheaper than going twice) and it was such a great idea. Even J gets so excited when he sees the roller coasters from the highway and starts laughing and pointing! We don’t feel pressured to stay super late or try to hit all the rides in one day either which makes everyone a little more relaxed! We left just as the sun was setting and as we were walking to the car, Aimee said, “Mom! Quick! Take a picture!” *Photo idea credit goes to Aim:)
On Saturday I dragged myself out of bed to do my long run of 20km. I headed out the door by 6:20 while the moon was still lighting the sky.
I hadn’t really planned my route but since I’ve been running the same streets for awhile I knew the basic loops I should probably do to get my distance in. I did a loop so that I could hit Subway for some water a little past 9k, but when I got there Subway wasn’t open yet! I discovered a tiny coffee shop in the same plaza where they had trays of fresh, still rising croissants and gigantic cinnamon rolls. I definitely need to go back there for more than a cup of water! I ate some of the fuel I brought along with my water and then kept going.
I sent Anson a text at 11k telling him I didn’t like marathon training and I should just stick to half marathons. He text me back being his super encouraging self which helped me keep going! It’s a good thing my awesome friends are coming across the ocean to run this marathon with me cuz I promise I would drop to the half if they weren’t doing it too!!
I started to get super thirsty around 15k and around 18k I saw a half empty water bottle on the side of the road. I lost my mind for a minute and actually considered picking it up and drinking it, but in the interest of remaining disease free–I didn’t do it! I DID text Anson again and asked him if he wanted to meet me at Starbucks. I finished my run there where Anson was waiting in the car with TWO venti ice waters. I drank both.
I worked the rest of the day Saturday and most of Sunday as well, but got to end the day with burgers at our house with Carmy and Michelle while we worked on some other super exciting things with Anson. Aimee even baked us chocolate chip cookies! (To be honest, mostly they worked and I sat on the couch eating and offering my wise opinions.)
Any weekend that ends with my family and my friends together eating cookies is a good weekend in my books! What was the best part of your weekend?
