A week and a half ago, I went to a New Balance event downtown Toronto for — you guessed it– girls, only!
The sign up was online a week before the event and was a night of yoga led by New Balance ambassador, Heather! I am definitely no yogi. I can’t even touch my toes and my hamstrings usually feel like they may snap in two when I try to stretch; BUT…. Cathy, Melly and Lisa were signing up and I caved to the peer pressure (and the thought of the “free swag” they promised!).
I drove downtown and met the girls outside before we went in. The event was held at The Extension Room on Eastern Avenue. When we walked in we were asked our names and shirt sizes before being handed a new tank top! This is the only picture I got because I am most excellent at forgetting to take pictures to share! It says, “Girls Run This Town.”
We found a spot in the very back corner (thankfully!) and chatted until it was time to begin!
We got started with the class and Heather was a fantastic teacher. She was great at describing what to do in a way that made sense to people like me who aren’t sure of many yoga poses! She was calm and made me feel comfortable and like I could do it! It didn’t take too long before I was sweating and soon I was dripping sweat onto my mat and trying to wipe it off before anyone else noticed!! By the end I was really tired and felt like I got a serious workout. I was sore within hours and it lasted for a couple days!! Most of the places I was hurting I didn’t realize contained muscles so apparently I really need to do more yoga (I say that a lot–and never follow through….).
After the class we were told they had some snacks for us! I regret not grabbing a card from the company that provided the food because wow–it was amazing! I struggled to resist eating even more than I did! They had homemade chips & guac, 3 different kinds of cookies, sandwiches, wraps, deconstructed cheeseburgers, water and fresh juice. I was stuffed by the time I left!
As we headed out the door we were handed one of these really nice canvas bags with a New Balance catalog inside and a skinny workout headband. I’ve used my bag a few times already as a diaper bag/purse/stuff everything inside bag and I love it!
I was really impressed with this event and I hope that New Balance does a few more of these in the future. It is always fun to try a new workout and meet some new people & I definitely appreciated the extra effort that was put into this Girls Night Out! Thanks, New Balance!
