I spent the past few months gearing up for the Mississauga Half and now that’s it over I’m kinda like, “now what?!”
I have only run one time since the half. I honestly haven’t been in the mood. (I did go for a 5km walk yesterday and am planning on going for a small run tonight hopefully.) I don’t think there’s anything wrong with taking a break when you need it. For me, personally, if I look at my workouts as something I HAVE to do then I start really resenting them and it makes me want to exercise even less. I would rather take a break so that I actually miss running or going to the gym! Loving my runs is honestly my priority right now and that is going to continue to be my focus!
When I enjoy my workouts I automatically work harder or run faster! I am really learning the benefit of working on the whole mental aspect of running. It is a game changer for me. I am pretty sure it is a metaphor for life but I am not going to get too philosophical today!!
I do have 3 other races planned so far for this year:
- June 5: 5k with Aimee for the Heart & Stroke Foundation
- September 17: RBC Race for the Kids which I am an ambassador for so be prepared to hear a lot about this amazing race! I haven’t decided on my distance yet. There are 5k, 7k and 15k options.
- October 16: first full marathon (that’s 42.2km just in case you didn’t know!) Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon
There are a few other races I am really wanting to do this year but first I need to sell a kidney or something to figure out how to pay for them!! Races aren’t cheap people!!
In all seriousness though–I know my running desire will return soon, so until that happens I am just going to relax and enjoy the beautiful sunshine! My full won’t run itself so training will continue!
What do you do when you don’t feel like working out?
