Christmas break was great, but this morning my alarm went off at 6:00…and at 6:08, 6:15, 6:23… until I finally dragged myself out of bed at 6:30. The girls went back to school this morning, Anson went to work and it was, once again, just me and J!
I am NOT a morning person in any way, shape or form and would prefer to stay up until 3 am and sleep in until 11 (& I could do it, no problem!). It took me so long today to fully wake up and do anything profitable, but I am kinda glad for the routine of life to be back. I am not very good at being motivated to accomplish a lot. I love lists and spreadsheets, but am not the best at following through. Sometimes I set my phone timer for 5 minute intervals and I will clean for 5 minutes and then watch a TV show for 5 minutes. My sister thinks this is insane, but I really work a lot harder in those 5 minutes and I get a lot done!
Today, when J went down for a nap, I started my first book of the year and set my phone timer for 15 minutes to force myself to sit there and start reading it! The first book I have chosen is The Sword and the Scimitar by David Ball.
When we were living in Malta, my dear friend, Trudy, bought me this book and said it was a must to read! When we left Malta unexpectedly in 2013 I took this book with me and have been carrying it around ever since! I thought it was about time to crack it open and actually read this story!
Seeing all the characters means I am going to need to concentrate when I read this one! So far, it is proving to be a dark and somewhat sad narrative, but since I have only read 21 pages, I probably shouldn’t make any judgments yet! I am really enjoying seeing the Maltese words (and knowing what they mean!), reading about places I can picture in my mind, and remembering so many things about that beautiful island! Malta stole my heart and not a day goes by where I don’t miss it, so I am excited to dive into this book that feels so close to my heart already!
A special thanks to everyone who gave me other book recommendations & if you haven’t yet, feel free to share in the comments or on my facebook page! Hopefully I will actually read more than one book a month!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Monday as most people went back to reality after the holidays! Stay warm!
